Day of the Old Wheeler this coming Saturday
Witness it firsthand: bygone era automobiles and motorbikes neatly lined-up, each with pedigree profiles and specifications that will bring a smile and nostalgic recollections of former days.
Welcome to the 11th Day of the Old Wheeler, set for Saturday (6 October) at 11:00 with all the hype of comparing notes, meeting old friends, sharing anecdotes with serious collectors and children, simply being carefree.
Turn off the B1 National Road into Stadion Street and again into Rugby Road and follow the crowd.
A definite highlight is that the only Buick 1938 ?Limited? in Namibia will be on show for the first time. This car, formerly owned by the Governor of Southern Rhodesia and later, the Chief-Justice of Zimbabwe, has been carefully restored by Peter Breitenstein, the club?s first Chairperson.
Another first that will create a stir, is that Namboer will present an unknown number of cars to be auctioned, with various cars older than 25 years coming under the hammer. Another innovation to initiate the Old Wheeler?s clubhouse development, will be the sale of bricks at pre-determined prices.
The new clubhouse will be located at the venue, of which the cornerstone is to be laid later this year.
Another highlight is the draw of the winning raffle for an Italian icon: the racy- red 1972 Lancia Fulvia. The last 100 tickets will be on sale during the day at N$50 each.
It is fitting that the principal sponsor, Standard Bank Vehicle & Asset Finance, is acknowledged for their loyal and enduring support.
So join in this Saturday to be part of an event filled with fun, good music, traditional ?fest? food and refreshing beverages for young and old.
Club paraphernalia will be on sale, including casual shirts, peak-caps, sun bonnets for the children and limited copies of the 25th Anniversary publication, a collectable worth having. For more information, contact Eric Detering on 081 124 3993.
