CoW to review overtime payments
The City of Windhoek doesn’t have enough money to implement projects.
The mayor of Windhoek, Fransina Kahungu, says the city will be forced to introduce cost-cutting measures to save money in order to successful implement its 2020 mayoral action plan.
Kahungu made the remarks on Thursday afternoon during the monthly council meeting.
The city has various projects that should be implement within the 2020 financial year, but council does not have sufficient funds to cover all the implementation costs to provide much needed services to the residents, she said.
Therefore, the city is reviewing whether funds spent on food and drinks at every event, including council meetings are justifiable. This will also include measures to regulates payments of overtime and examine whether it is vulnerable to abuse.
“As we implement these cost-cutting measures, we are pleading for cooperation from all our employees and stakeholders alike, because we are doing this to find funds to provide services to the residents, which is the main reason for our existence,” said Kahungu.
She said added that communities are crying for services and councils must be responsive to this. Her office has already received two petitions this year - one from Moses //Garoëb constituency and another from Samora Machel constituency, are all seeking for better service delivery from the city leadership. - Nampa
