Class of ’97 makes a difference

Leandrea Louw Fourteen old scholars of the De Duine Secondary School class of 1997 are ploughing back into the local Narraville schools in Walvis Bay. On Friday, the Making a Difference team handed over 15 boxes of tiles to the value of N$5 000 to the Narraville Primary School. The tiles will be used in the girls’ bathroom. Grant Knowles, who is part of the group, donated a roll-up banner and stand. Printed on the banner is the school’s vision, mission and school anthem. Burchill Sitzer said on behalf of the group that the schools were fundamental in their upbringing. “The motto of Narraville Primary School is ‘Bou en Behou’ (build and maintain), and we want to keep on building. The schools and teachers not only taught us the various subjects, but also instilled life-long lessons and values.” Cecilia Nakashole, principal of Narraville Primary School, expressed her gratitude towards the group and said she hoped the school and the old scholars could foster a long-term relationship. At De Duine Secondary School the group donated N$12 000 for the sign at the new main entrance. The school also received a roll-up banner from Grant Knowles.Sitzer said their next contribution towards the secondary school would be to build the boundary wall, which is not yet complete. “We are challenging all the old scholars of De Duine and Narraville Primary to follow suit. The schools have numerous needs, and by giving back is our way to say thank you.”Anton van Wyk, principal of De Duine, also expressed his gratitude and said it was great to see former learners of the school plough back. The Making a Difference group consists of Burchill Sitzer, Grant Knowles, Lorrancia Farmer Langenhoven, Alida Jansen Krohne, Ashley & Barbara Maclobo, Yasiem Emamdien, Karin Andima, Claude Herbert, Bernice Bandi, Angelo Botha, Randall Jantje, Chantal Barker Snyders and Odele Simpson Muller.
