Churches speak out on morality and abortion

The Christian ChurchCommunity writes:25 April 2017 A call to Christians in Namibia to help direct Namibia's youth and future towards Christ.An open letter to the decision makers/national leaders about morality, CSE (Comprehensive Sexuality Education) and abortion on demand.We are praying for God's wisdom for you as a leader who has to help give direction to the nation in this time. We realise that your input might have a huge influence on Namibia's morality and its future.90% of Namibia's inhabitants associate themselves with Christianity. As leaders, we will have to decide whether we are going to direct our youth and the future of Namibia towards Christ's teachings or not.World history reminds us how a nation can be built or perish because of moral values. Biblical teachings on respect for marriage and respect for life are vastly different from humanistic thoughts regarding sexuality, gender rights, homosexuality, lesbianism and abortion on demand. Outcomes for our Namibian future will be vastly different, depending on which direction we take.Comprehensive Sex EducationIt has come to our attention that Comprehensive Sexuality Education is promoted and possibly already incorporated in some Namibian schools. We have been alerted by certain Christian organizations that there might be a hidden agenda behind CSE and that it may contain material/teachings that may sexualize our young children and encourage them to experiment with sex at a young age.According to our knowledge, CSE promotes explicit material in other countries that may encourage children to adopt homosexual/lesbian life styles. Furthermore it encourages children not to respect human life - demanding abortion rights and breaks down parent-child relationships. The same groups that promote these explicit materials also runs "abortion on demand" clinics internationally. These are the groups that also promote CSE in Namibia.If this is the case, our opinion is that the agenda behind CSE might filter through into Namibia and undermine our Namibian family structures.As churches and members of the Christian community, we try to help restore broken families on a daily basis. We try to encourage strong family structures, further the Gospel and promote proven Biblical family values to build our Namibian nation. We want to teach our children family-friendly values, amongst others, respect for their parents, respect for life (not killing their own unborn), respect for government and to live responsible, conscientious lives.We ask that you will kindly investigate the CSE agenda thoroughly in conjunction with CCN on behalf of the 90% people in Namibia that associate themselves with Christianity. If you find teaching or agendas that do not build our family values based on Christian ethics, please take all the necessary steps to stop this program and give/seek advice on a family friendly alternative that meets the approval of our Christian leaders.Abortion on demandIn various newspapers, the Minister of Health has been reported as saying: "We need to ask ourselves whether it is not time to relook at the legislation and decriminalise abortion."Induced abortion does not only leave a dead baby and a wounded mother. A completed abortion is not the end of the story.Often, as a delayed reaction, the mother suffers from a Post Abortion Syndrome (PAS), resulting in feelings of "emptiness, loss and guilt". Some of the symptoms that follow are depression, sexual problems, broken relationships, drug/alcohol abuse, suicidal tendencies etc.Mankind was not intended to kill its own offspring. Abortion is murder. In legalising it (under the guise of pro-choice/women's rights), we will be guilty of the blood of innocent babies and will teach our youth to suppress their own consciences. As Christian leaders and workers we will be concerned if there are leaders in our government who do not respect human life from its natural origin to its natural end. We earnestly appeal the decision-makers to consult the CCN, who represents the Christian Churches in Namibia, and other Christian leaders before they promote topics that may have such a huge negative influence on moral values in this country. It is our prayer that our leaders will encourage our youth to family-friendly values, amongst others, respect for their parents, respect for life (not killing their own unborn), respect for the marriage bed and faithfulness in marriage, respect for government and to live responsible, conscientious lives. These are tried and tested family values that have been respected in Christian communities and have built nations over all the ages.Leaders should consult the Christian church and Christian leaders on moral issues that may affect our families that may either break down or build up our nation. Healthy families are the basic building blocks of a healthy society.
