Capricorn Group reaches out to Groot Aub community
Capricorn Group and its subsidiaries have thus far contributed N$ 5 million to aid Namibia in its fight against Covid-19 and its effects on the most vulnerable communities.
The Capricorn Group has donated N$ 300 000 to a small feeding centre and orphanage in Groot Aub.
The Youth Worship Team project is home to 10 orphans and a feeding centre to more than 70 children in the community.
Bank Windhoek’s brand and corporate executive officer Marlize Horn said the project brings hope to the community of Groot Aub, but the corrugated structure which has no running water or electricity is a major setback for the centre’s regular activities.
“Capricorn Group’s contribution has kick-started the developments at this centre and the children will soon have a solid housing structure, toilets and water tank to provide a decent sanitation system,” Horn was quoted as saying in the statement.
The infrastructure development sponsored by Capricorn Group commenced on 10 July.In addition to the financial support, 30 Capricorn Group employees in their role as ‘Change makers’ volunteered to visit the centre.
“In the spirit of being connectors of positive change, the employees served meals and drinks to the children, handed out masks and hand sanitiser and demonstrated the correct use of masks and sanitiser to the children,” she said.
Horn stated that the Covid-19 pandemic amplified the needs of the centre as it did not have basic infrastructure such as water, which is essential to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
