Bible versus reality

Mandy Rittmann
Rev. Jan Fritz Gaweseb writes:

In a predominantly Christian country does one expect that people will mainly adhere to the Christian principles, values and norms? That such society would act accordingly in upholding and practicing Biblical commandments, instructions and doctrines?

As a Christian, I confess and agree that God created us all as human beings in His very own image and love us all unconditionally. God created man and woman as equal beings and this is universal for all people and is not socially or culturally constructed. Allow me to state that rewriting God's Rules is never an option.

The Bible-Scriptures, approve no other sexual union than that between husband and wife and this is and should be the uncontested historical teaching of Judaism and Christianity and nobody should be at liberty to adjust it with the times because God and His Word is forever the same.

God, the Creator of all human beings, intended marriage to be a permanent, intimate bond between male and female. Men and women are designed to complement each other so that they may be capable of satisfying each other's emotional and sexual needs and of providing children through reproduction or multiplying.

Allow me to state that God's ultimate intention with sexual relations between man and woman was about procreation, which means that babies should be born out of marriages and that heterosexual unions reach into the creation of the next generation. Therefore, mostly all cultures in the world at all historical times hold as fundamental that every child should be loved and raised by a mother and a father. The UN Convention on the Rights of the child recognizes a mother and a father as a basic right for every child.

As we know, Namibia is a democratic, secular but also a sovereign state that is at liberty to govern herself in the best interest of her people. I must acknowledge that until now, the Government has democratically done reasonably well. I cannot witness that the Namibian Government has intimidated or violated grossly the rights of any minority groups within its jurisdiction of governance.

Having said all the above, I will not embrace the issue of legalizing same-sex marriages in Namibia as a predominantly Christian Country but I also do not want to see a situation where peoples' safety and liberty are threatened.
