Augustinus Matyayi NBL?s Ambassador for December
JUDGES of the Namibian Breweries (NBL) Ambassador initiative named Augustinus Matyayi as the corporate?s Namibian Ambassador for December 2010.
A trained nurse and post-donation counsellor at the Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia, Matyayi was last year recognised as a hero by the United States of America President?s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Matyayi has been rewarded for his selfless commitment and care of the emotional health of people infected with HIV in Namibia.
Substantiating his recognition PEPFAR said: ?Augustinus Matyayi has compassion, empathy, strong communication skills and a deep commitment to confidentiality. As the bearer of often devastating personal news, Matyayi has one of the most difficult and emotionally challenging jobs in PEPFAR. Despite the emotional burdens, it is a challenge he meets on a daily basis with grace and professionalism.?
Matyayi is said to have built up an extensive referral system and more than 95% of his referrals have enrolled in antiretroviral therapy programmes. Rieth de Koe, who nominated Matyayi for the NBL Namibian Ambassador programme, stated that she has been working with Matyayi for the past two years. She described him as the most loyal, dedicated and passionate person.
Patrick Hashingola, Manager Corporate Communication at Namibia Breweries, said that the NBL Namibian Ambassador programme was launched in June last year with the aim of celebrating Namibians who have received international recognition for Namibia.
Under consideration are achievements in the area of academia, sports, entertainment, entrepreneurship and service to humanity. To date six NBL Namibian Ambassadors have been named. The programme is scheduled to conclude in March with the announcement of the Overall NBL Namibian Ambassador.
