An experienced ICT Managing Director

Wetumwene Shikage Manfred Engling has been in senior positions at different companies, including one of the largest ICT companies in South Africa, and managed different companies in Africa. Propelling to become a great leader in every career can be a story enriched with a great variety of experiences. Engling encountered many successes in his career, which included growing the company’s revenue by more than four times, converting red figures to black figures and being able to build and maintain a winning team.Successes have been only part of the journey which he strives to keep improving with short-term goals for the foundation for the next two years. He strives to win by being the best at what he does. “This means competing with yourself and your own potential for greatness,” he says.Proud moments Proud moments have been a great part of who Engling is. “What I have achieved over the years and how I share some of my knowledge with others,” he says. Teaching and creating more leaders through sharing knowledge is one thing he continues to uphold and impart. In March 1965, he was appointed as a trainee engineer at Schoemans Office Equipment for 15 years. He decided to do extensive training at Olivetti Africa in Johannesburg at had the opportunity to attend training in Italy and the United States of America (USA). After supporting the Olivetti branches, he decided to take up new challenges by joining Persetel. This came with the main responsibility for maintaining, programming and selling IBM 370-390 architecture. In 1999, he was transferred back to Namibia and joined UUNet (ISP) Internet Solution Provider (MTN Business Namibia) as the Managing Director. Engling had the privilege to manage both MTN Business Namibia and MTN Business Botswana. Both countries have been the highlight of his ICT career. In a press release issued on 30 August, Engling commended his team for always providing the best service to each client. “We value service. We identified a gap in the telecommunications industry, and after several years of experience in Namibia and the African continent on this journey to give each customer the best service. There are many role players in this industry and the more options we provide for our customers, the better we can work as an industry to provide fastest information to each Namibian,” he stated.On a usual day, Engling would spend two to three hours in the office completing administrative work, building sales funnels and the rest of the day he spends building or improving customer relationships.When Engling is not in the office, he enjoys gardening, birdwatching, home improvements and reading about management styles and family engagements. “Being a family of seven members, you quickly learn and understand about sharing and how my mother handled the situation,” he said. 10 Facts about yourself1.
