Genovieve Pretorius was born and raised in Windhoek. She is a 23-year-old in her final year of completing a degree in logistics at the Namibia University of Science and Technology. Pretorius is currently working in the CX & Care Department at MultiChoice Namibia as a Customer Service Representative.

Pretorius is a frontline MultiChoice worker at the head office. “My job essentially is to service customers who have technical queries i.e. faulty decoders, billing queries as well as on boarding new customers to our DStv and GOtv platforms,” she mentions.

She says that she was raised by her grandmother. “The fact that her innovation to pull senior citizen tickets as a priority from the queuing system was implemented by our company has been my greatest achievement thus far,” she says. Her biggest challenge is coping with change in the business dynamics due to the COVID-19 pandemic and balancing her health and safety while still giving the best service to customers.

Pretorius’ day starts at 8:45 and she plans her day before they open for business. She ensures that the urgent queries get sorted first before she takes on new customer queries. “On average, I see 40-50 customers per day. I collaboratively try to make sure that all my queries have been resolved before I knock off at 18h00,” she says.

She further says that her job gives her freedom and allows me to innovate. The culture at work is unmatched. “I am inspired by my colleagues and the fact that there is a great collaborative spirit between people from different walks of life. We have the same vision and it is truly inspiring,” Pretorius says.

The advice she would give to aspiring young people out there is to do work that you care about. Confucius once said: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” and she lives by that quote.

Pretorius would like to take on a bigger role in the company or externally, preferably in line with her degree after its completion.

When asked by Careers what was the best phase in her life, she adds it is definitely the present. “I have minimal responsibilities and a lot of time to take care of myself mentally and emotionally.” She adds that if she was allowed to change something in the world, she would start with world hunger. “Secondly, I would make sure men and women enjoy equal rights when it comes to opportunities, resources and protection. Thirdly, I would put an end to the women and child abuse worldwide,” she concludes.
