Agra opens biggest branch ever
Agra Retail opened the doors of its biggest branch ever at the Agra Hyper Centre in Windhoek’s Lafrenz Industrial area on Monday, 20 July.
Stocked to the roof with products to the value of N$28 million, 3 000 additional product lines and a total retail area of more than 8 000m², this branch of Agra promises to be a prime shopping destination for farmers and builders as well as the general public.
Agra’s executive committee gathered at Agra Hyper on the opening day for their weekly meeting at the newly opened coffee shop, Bean Juice Coffee Shop, after which they were the first to experience shopping at the new branch.
“There is plenty of free parking, wide corridors between the shelves, a huge variety of products in a very neat, light and friendly shopping environment with twenty cashiers – a shopper’s feast!” These were the remarks of Abelene Boer, Agra’s Senior Manager Marketing, who enjoyed being one of the first shoppers at Agra Retail in the Agra Hyper center.
At the new Agra Retail branch, clients will enjoy the offering of a wide range of new product categories; additional to the current extended product range and bulk packaging. Shop space of more than 3 000 m²; total shelf length of about 800 m, wide aisles between shelves; an animal medicine counter of 17 m long and 20 pay points are but some of the reasons clients will enjoy a comfortable, world-class shopping experience. An outside paved area of 17 000 m², 150 parking bays, designated parking for vehicles with trailers and separate entrances for delivery and client vehicles make for easy access into a secure area, enclosed within security fencing. New product lines that clients can look forward to include the DIY Depot, basic home décor items, power tools, electrical and plumbing equipment and weapons, ammunition and outdoor.
Feeds and licks
The feeds and licks store has a floor area of 2 617 m² and farming equipment and building material are neatly displayed in a bulk storage yard of about 4 000 m².
Loading platforms have been constructed alongside the entire retail area, making it easy for loading from trolleys as well as from the feeds and licks store onto the vehicles. The branch also has wheelchair access.
The Agra Hyper centre also hosts the Agra Retail and Wholesale offices. Space is still available for external tenants with some of the space already taken up by an ATM and the Bean Juice Coffee Shop, a restaurant with a beautiful view. Agra Hyper is situated at the end of Industria Road, just off the B1 highway and Monte Christo Road.
The Agra development, Agra Hyper, and Agra Retail’s flagship branch at this centre is a significant step in Agra’s achievement of its purpose of creating prosperity and improving quality of life, not only for Agra, but for everyone connected to this project, and also for Agra’s clients, ensuring that the investment will result in better, faster and more efficient service to all.
New product lines
The new branch offers new product lines such as electric ware and catering and house ware.
Lots of new products have been added to existing product ranges such as the plumbing; garden; irrigation; pet care; camping and outdoor; hunting and slaughtering ranges.
There is now a mixing station for paint, a variety of bicycles to choose from as well as the basic cycling tools. In the auto division, clients can choose from a larger variety of parts such as axles, wheels and tyres. The hunting and outdoor division also offers a wider variety of products for the outdoor enthusiast and hunter. Besides the usual products focusing on the needs of farmers and the wide variety of products available for housewives and the general public, this branch also caters for builders. The large outdoor area provides for space to stock on building material such as steel, window frames, doors and cement.
The establishment of this branch has created jobs for 150 Namibians. New employees joined during the course of the past month and have been receiving training in their respective positions. The time from the soft opening on 20 July until the grand opening on 21 August allows for all issues that might arise in the operations and service of the branch to be sorted out.
The Agra branch in the Auas Valley Shopping Mall will continue with its services to the farmers and the general public. Another facelift for this branch is also on the cards for the next phase of the upgrade to the Auas Valley Shopping Mall.
Since its inception in 1980, Agra has grown to become the largest agricultural business in the country with 4 262 Namibian shareholders, 750 employees and an annual turnover of more than N$1,9 billion.
