Die Wêreldgesondheidsorganisasie (WHO) se noodgesondheidsbeampte vir Namibië, dr. Petrus Mhata, sê die organisasie beveel nie enige reis- en handelsbeperkings met China vir lande in Afrika aan nie. Volgens Mhata is dit weens die maatskaplike ontwrigting wat dit veroorsaak. Die intensiewe gebruik van hulpbronne weeg ook swaarder as die potensiële voordele. Volgens hom is Namibië en Afrika gereed om gevalle van die siekte te hanteer en sal 20 Afrikalande, Namibië ingesluit, teen die einde van die week plaaslik vir die virus kan toets. Hy het ook verwys na 13 Afrikalande wat as top prioriteitlande deur die WHO vir hul direkte band en hoë passasiersvolume met China uitgesonder is. Namibië is 'n nie-prioriteitland. Mhata sê meer as 400 wetenskaplikes is tans in Geneva, Switserland byeen om aan 'n entstof teen die siekte te werk.
