Monique AdamsA married man with two beautiful sons, Lamek Tangeni Lamek says that his family is split due to his work life, since he is regularly on the road and is always on his phone. When he does get time to spend with his family, he makes sure to be present and spend as much quality time as possible.Lamek’s role in GIPF is to objectively assess the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes, both in assurance and consulting roles.He adds value and improves the fund’s operations by assisting with achieving its objectives by deploying a systematic, disciplined approach and the latest tools and techniques.ChallengesHis business process evolves every day and that requires him to up-skill at the same rate. With this, the ethic organisational culture affects how effective internal audit departments fulfil their mandate.“Having worked in the safety and security cluster, energy and currently in the financial sector within the same role allowed me to better understand and evaluate different operational processes that is critical to the business success,” he says.The current pandemic has also affected him in executing his duties with the change of technology. Cyber security and working from home remotely require one to adapt to the new normal. Lamek had to rearrange his property but also found this very productive as he could work very late hours.When asked how GIPF has been a partner in alleviating the challenges posed by the pandemic, he replied: “GIPF has and still is actively encouraging staff members, clients and general public to strictly comply with the state of emergency regulations in face of the social and health crisis. The fund is investing in companies that are providing personal protection equipment (PPE) and medical-related support.”Lamek’s future plans are to pursue a doctorate, expand his family and to become an executive in the next two years. What inspires him are people with a high moral compass, who are energetic and knowledgeable.
