Catching up with Mr Hockey

Dellya Ngo Bakalag & Ujandja Uanguta

We sat down and chatted with the principal of Karibib Private School, Mr Vincent Hockey.

First of all, how have you been?

I am good and with the grace of our heavenly father we managed to survive and at KPS we are actually quite fortunate to have been protected from the virus with zero recorded infections so far.

How do you feel the plans for 2020 have changed due to Covid-19?

Covid-19 played havoc with 2020.All plans had to be drastically changed. Not only the academic front but also all other spheres of school life. All sport and cultural activities had to be cancelled, no fundraising activities could take place, the academic year was extended to up 23 December 2020 for us teachers, the start of the external examinations had to be postponed to November, etc…

Are you confident in your pupils finishing the school year, without a hitch?

I am quite confident about this. We should just rust in the lord because he knows his plans with and for us.

Do you think the precautions established are effective?

I would like to believe so. All the necessary precautions, prescribed by the World health Organization as well as our line ministry (Ministry of education, Arts and Culture) was implemented and followed. If you at the compliance checklist for operations during the Covid-19 pandemic, we managed to tick all the boxes. The fact that no incident or case was recorded is testimony to this. Once again, praise be to the lord for protecting us.

When Covid-19 blows over, will we still take the necessary precautions?

Most definitely! One good lesson taught to us by Covid-19, is the importance of hygiene. Covid-19 and all its side effects will be with us for some time to come. We cannot afford to let our guard down! We will surely continue to take the necessary precautions.
