Vurka Namibia

Dani Booysen
"BAB FROM //KHARAS WRITES:

Allow me once again to express my discontent and pain with regard to bad governance in this country in all spheres of government. “Vurka” is a Xhosa word, one of South Africa’s indigenous vernaculars, meaning “wake- up” or “watch- out”. Things are windling regrettably and deplorably in Namibia, we need to look at these things with an eagle’s eye.

One must look 10 to 20 years ahead. What’s going to happen in this country with the younger generation when all of us won’t be around?

It’s mind-boggling and quite worrisome.

The incumbent ruling elite leadership is so faceless that they are even worse than animals. All this leaves you with one question, what happened to the good things that we were aspiring to and fighting for? Our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, grandmoms and grandfathers had shed blood for our liberation and freedom in all respects.

As a direct result of GBV against women and children caused by hunger, poverty, unemployment and alcohol and drug abuse men have changed into monsters. One South African artist describes women as natural care-givers, who are precious and who only need love, support, respect and protection. He concluded by saying that such men deserve a firing-squad.

In my personal view, good governments don’t confront and harass citizens, but they rather communicate via pragmatic and holistic approaches aimed at fundamental transformation. It’s disheartening that our government is rather promoting and practicing “divide-and-rule” policies against their own people. They’re rather eliminating some instead of empowering them. What a shame.

Public accountability is “taboo”, perceived irregularities are rife and continues unabatedly. We must go back to the drawing-board and re-define crime and barbarism and devise mechanisms aimed at restoring our moral high ground.

The time is now to build a rainbow nation. We are talking about a solid brick house with a united society.

The moment of truth is on our doorsteps, as there is no more time for cowardice.

One thing that we must understand is that independence mean different things to different people. Simply because the liberation struggle ended, apartheid didn't stop. We are seemingly striving to re-colonise each other, but be careful - our destiny is not determined by the designs and concepts of a well-connected few ruling through division.

It has been only lip-service that we should support our rural economy. We are doing very little or nothing to change the prevailing narrative.

It’s high time for us to reclaim our dignity and power. The economy is still in the hands of a new ruling elite. We have become victims of commercialized propaganda.

Why am I saying all this? As I have alluded to in the beginning, things are going wrong and politically cantankerous decisions, actions and policies are the new order of the day in all spheres and sectors of the Government.

If we are to prosper, we need a total revamp, reconstruction and revitalisation. Stop crying and “vuka” electorate and Namibia in general, if we are really concerned about the generations to come.

Let’s re-examine ourselves, our policies, our strategies and choose reform for the common betterment of all.
