Nam’s investment appeal tarnished

Jo-Maré Duddy – Namibia has lost appeal for mining companies looking to invest in Africa, according to the latest report by the Fraser Institute, one of the top 15 think-tanks worldwide.
Namibia ranks ninth in Africa on Fraser’s 2020 Investment Attractive Index, down from sixth place in 2019.
In 2019, Fraser’s top ten countries in Africa were: 1. Botswana; 2. Burkina Faso; 3. Democratic Republic of Congo; 4. Guinea; 5. Mali; 6. Namibia; 7. South Africa; 8. Tanzania; 9. Zambia; and 10. Zimbabwe.
The top ten in 2020 were: 1. Botswana; 2. Burkina Faso; 3. Democratic Republic of Congo; 4. Ghana; 5. Guinea; 6. Mali; 7. Mauritania; 8. Mozambique; 9. Namibia; and 10. South Africa.
Namibia scored 59.72 points out of a possible 100 on the index, up from 58.22 in 2019.
Its global ranking is 52nd out of 77 countries. In 2019, Namibia ranked 55th out of 76 countries worldwide.
