MADI's management to be decentralised
Governor of the Kavango East Region, Bonifasius Wakudumo, has proposed the management of the Mashare Agricultural Development Institute (MADI) to be decentralised for it to be effective, relevant and efficient.
Wakudumo said this at the launch and hand-over of tractors and a refurbished kitchen and hostel by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform at Mashare in the Mashare Constituency on Friday.
The centre was transformed and renamed to a centre of excellence, with the aim of supporting agricultural activities in the region, which the governor said that if the funding to renovate it was aimed at transforming it to a centre of excellence for climate-resilient agriculture, its operations should also be changed.
“It is difficult to comprehend that while the centre is here in Mashare, the administrative power of the institution is in Windhoek or somewhere else. Please let the management and the decision-making body of the institution be regional-based,” said Wakudumo.
The governor further said he would also want to know how much the centre contributes to the growth of the region, as well as how much the farmers and individuals benefit from the research outcomes of the centre. - Nampa
