Long Service
Christiana Angermund
25 Years of marketing
Since 1995 with 25 years’ experience in the media industry, Christiana Angermund has moved her way up and established herself at Namibia Media Holdings.
The media industry has seen a dramatic change in its day-to-day operation, moving from analogue to a more digital sphere. Christiana remembers the times of planning a newspaper manually and doing everything by hand. From an age of using order books to plan the newspaper, to now using software to design pages. She fondly recalls the use of photograpic negatives that served as artwork; now graphic designers use software for designing.
Although much has changed, deadlines remain the same. According to Christiana things are moving at a faster pace these days, but with a more streamlined process. Back in the day it took a lot more people to get the job done but now it takes half the people to get things done. Another thing that hasn’t changed? Difficult clients.
Where it all started
The Concordia College matriculant started at Democratic Media Holdings at the age of 18, right after she finished school. Becoming a pharmacist had always been her dream but circumstances changed. She started as a temp who was only supposed to work for three months, but three months became a year and she started learning page planning. After that, Christiana saw herself working at the advertising agency desk. A year turned into 25 years.
“I enjoy what I do; no day is the same,” says Angermund, adding that she would not change a thing about what she is currently doing.
What the job entails
At the agency desk, she liaises with advertising agencies as well as big corporate clients from South Africa. Christiana is no stranger to working with big names in the retail industry; Shoprite-Checkers is one of the clients that she assists to get their marketing and advertising needs looked after.
The satisfaction of reaching targets at the end of the months is one of the aspects of the job that keeps her going and on her toes. The fact that no day is never the same definitely contributes to keeping things interesting.
The media industry is constantly changing and Christiana looks forward to learning more about the aspects of digital marketing.
