Long is the road and short is the life
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2: "There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot."
This verse, along with “Long is the road and short is the life," are particularly significant to the Etosha family as three beloved souls have been lost during the Covid-19 times. Their deaths have left many students grieving and depressed, which has greatly impacted their academic performances. What better way is there to convey love and gratitude for their limited time spent on this earth than poetry?
Feel no guilt in laughter, they'd know how much you care
Feel no sorrow in a smile that they are not here to share
We cannot grieve forever; they would not want us to
They'd hope that we could carry on the way we always do
So, talk about the good times and the way we showed we cared
The days we spent together, all the happiness we shared
Let memories surround us, words someone may say,
Will suddenly recapture time, an hour, a day,
That brings them back as clearly as though they were still here,
And fills us with the feeling that they are always near
For if we keep those moments, we will never be apart
And they will live forever safely within our hearts
To all those souls, Rest in Peace
Poem by Amy E Wyngaard, David Shilongo and Alex Fishburn.
