Encouraging aspirant referees
The men and women with a whistle are equally important to the beautiful game and Absalom Goseb has once again encouraged those interested to take up the challenge.

Referees administrator Absalom Goseb is calling on young male and female Namibians to consider referee as a profession in order for the country to have enough refs in the future.
Namibia has in past only had a handful of referees who have officiated international games or top tournaments in Africa and in the world.
He is confident that the moment younger people get involved in the profession, Namibia might have more referees representing the country at high level.
“It is always important to have younger people coming in and taking up the profession.
“Being a referee is not easy but it is something that a person can enjoy if you are passionate.
“I will therefore encourage young boys and girls to not be afraid of taking it as a profession,” Goseb said.
The former referee added that being a referee also helps individuals with self-discipline.
He acknowledged the challenges that comes with being the man in the whistle but says that is the fun and exciting part of it.
“We have seen how referees get insulted and all by the players and coaches.
“However, you are taught not to react and to remain emotionally intelligent,” Goseb added.
Women in refereeing
The country has seen the emergence of women referees in the past couple of years and Goseb is calling for more women to join the game.
In the past, football was only associated with men and it was therefore difficult for women to enter the game.
Things have changed and football is being played, officiated and coached by all genders.
“It is also always great to see the emergence of female referees because football is for everyone.
“In some cultures, it is still difficult for people to accept that, but the world has advanced to that level and we need to keep up.
“It is in that line that I will also encourage young women who have dreams of refereeing and even playing football to follow their dreams,” Goseb noted.
