Downs drop points at CT City

Kickoff Mamelodi Sundowns dropped points in the DStv Premiership for the first time since August after playing to a goalless draw against Cape Town City.Goalkeeper Denis Onyango, Thapelo Morena, Haashim Domingo and Thabiso Kutumela were the Brazilians' four changes from the win over Marumo Gallants FC, as City handed a league debut to Taahir Goedeman.Masandawana unleashed the first shot in anger five minutes from kick-off through Domingo’s first-time attempt after the Citizens didn’t deal properly with an entry into the area.Eric Tinkler’s men started to find confidence after their slow start and that allowed them to see a lot of the ball, which indirectly saw chances for, amongst others, Mduduzi Mdantsane.Sundowns were pressured straight on the half-hour mark and saw Fagrie Lakay fashion in two chances in succession from the right-side of the area, but Onyango had it covered.The Citizens were then pressed back near the last five minutes of the first half as a free-kick outside the area from Domingo produced a flying save from City goalkeeper Hugo Marques.Masandawana looked for a fast start to the second exchanges, but Citizens held firm to keep their Tshwane counterparts at bay.Fresh facesThe Citizens began to push Sundowns to the edge following the latter exchanges with a header from Douglas Mapfumo and Goedeman’s near post shot forcing Onyango into action.A set of fresh faces, granted the hard-running nature of the contest, forced Masandawana to bring on Lyle Lakay for Divine Lunga and sacrificed Morena for Mothobi Mvala near the end.Sundowns applied loads pressure in pursuit of the winner with Neo Maema’s looping shot outside the area before time which Marques smothered, seeing the tie end goalless.
