Chiefs didn't have a chance – Benzarti
Kickoff
Wydad AC head coach Faouzi Benzarti has reacted to Kaizer Chiefs dumping the two-time champions out of the CAF Champions League.
Benzarti appeared quite vocal after being pitted with Amakhosi for the semi-finals in a seemingly dismissive manner around their chances to advance to the final over the Botola Pro giants.
This after he sent a 'B-team' to FNB Stadium back in April which saw them lose 1-0, a result that effectively kept Chiefs in the competition.
But Benzarti insists his side were the better team over the two-legged tie but luck just wasn't on their side as they created several chances.
"Over the 90 minutes of play, we created most of the chances, Kaizer Chiefs didn't have any chance basically, I'd like to congratulate Chiefs and lastly congratulate my players for a great performance," he said in the post-match press conference.
"In the Botola Pro, Wydad has the most goals scored in the league using the same players, with the same tactics, with the charisma but against an unbelievable defence of Chiefs.
"We needed the last touch, the players wanting to score, that key player to put the ball in the net but the boys tried their best - they just couldn't get there."
Benzarti whose job could be on the line despite being at the summit of the Morrocan top-flight went on to express his disappointment of not qualifying for the final in front of their home fans.
"I'm very disappointed for Wydad especially that we did have the chance to score and make a difference in the game, we just needed that one goal that wouldn't get right," he admitted.
"But overall we dominated, we did what we were supposed to be doing we just lacked that one goal. I'm very disappointed [not to qualify for the final at home.]"
