Big thanks to corporate Namibia

Jesse Jackson Kauraisa Today I do not really want to pen anything negative because I feel some corporate companies have earned my respect as far as being involved in sport is concerned.Yes, one would like to have more of them on board to support sport and I hope this will be done in the near future.Namibia as a country has been in an extremely difficult situation for the past couple of years but some companies have sacrificed to keep the torch of sport burning.The Covid-19 pandemic did not spare businesses, but still some of them did not waver - despite the financial constraints they have been experiencing over the past two years.The support and gestures from many of these corporate companies have yielded desired results in many sport codes.Namibian sport is finally showing signs of resurrection with glory days appearing inevitable.This is all due to the support and efforts from corporate Namibia.It also goes without saying that there have been individuals who have continued supporting athletes on personal level with large amounts.This is why one has to applaud those who have gone deep in their pockets to ensure that the dreams of Namibian sons and daughters are kept alive.One would also clearly state that there are some companies that have actually done more than what we can imagine as far as supporting sport is concerned.These specific companies have spent millions towards several sport codes and one can only thank them for the incredible gesture.We all know that sport in this country is a stepchild of the government and receives less from the budget than any other sector.That is why the survival of sport in this country heavily relies on corporate investment.It is for these reasons I would like to to encourage corporate Namibia and those companies that have remain committed to sport to continue doing what they do.It is no secret that most of the companies that are supporting sport codes and sport in general are also struggling financially due to the impact of the pandemic.We need more companies to come on board and support sport because it seems that it is always the same names that appears in sponsorships.Sport during pandemic It is important to note that Namibia’s sport fraternity now needs the corporate sector’s support more than ever before due to the Covid -19 pandemic.Sport codes have always relied on financial aid from companies and the government.Associations and federations have continued to plead with potential sponsors over the years.Some corporate companies have heard their cries and sponsored events and sport codes.Hosting sport events now costs more, given the precautions that have to be taken to guard against the virus.This means that athletes require testing, sanitising and facilities will need constant disinfecting. That is why it is so important for the business community to inject more funds into sport federations and associations.The only way sport in Namibia can continue during these trying times is if funds are made available, specifically for coronavirus-related matters when hosting an event.Yes, it is a difficult time for all because the virus has affected businesses too and they will need to recover from the deep economic recession.It is, however, time for companies to dig a little deeper into their pockets to ensure that sport remains relevant amongst our people.Having said that, I am still grateful for those corporate companies that have kept sport alive. jesse@namibiansun.com
