21 years and counting
Nelly Moses is always of service to others
Elizabeth Joseph
Nelly Moses was born and raised in a small village in the south of Namibia called Goageb and has dedicated the last 21 years of her life to the Notoshama River Resort at Aussenkehr.
Moses describes life growing up as difficult and that she had to start working at the tender age of 15 to help provide for her family. After dropping out in grade 9, Moses found employment at various farms doing several tasks to make ends meet.
"After working from such a young age, I was used to long hours and making sacrifices. I started working at the resort in 2000 with four rooms and now it stands at 36 rooms and four houses.
That time it was not easy for the company because it was still establishing itself and us alongside it," she says.
Moses's passion is evident in her day-to-day duties and the smile she shares with everyone that visits the resort.
"I love everything about my job. Meeting new people is always a highlight and the opportunities to grow here are endless. There is nothing I'd rather be doing." Moses says.
On the job
Nelly's job as a supervisor is to make sure that the visitors are always happy.
"We get a lot of clients and visitors from overseas and they love the resort as much as I do. I know that they always feel at home and that's why they keep coming back."
Over the years, she said she learned that the one who perseveres will always win and she learned that from the resort owner, Deon Brand.
She says he inspires her and is a great leader who allows his staff to hone their skills to become the best versions of themselves.
"Everything he does, he does with passion and thus encourages me to continue being the best that I can be to see the resort grow," she says.
