Hanks Mukaya Saisai is an agriculturist who was born and raised in Katima Mulilo.

He holds a diploma and a bachelor's degree in agricultural management from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). He is currently employed by the Agricultural Bank of Namibia (Agribank) as a technical advisor for crops and poultry. He is also the co-founder of H & T Agric Consultants, a consultancy firm with a special focus on agricultural projects, advisory services, and one-on-one training for individual farmers.

He is a bubbly, innovative and problem-solving young man who strives to build the knowledge and skill set of farmers as well as farming communities across Namibia in aspects of poultry, piggery and crop production.

His journey with Agribank began on 1 September 2020 when he was appointed to his current position.

Outreach

Since joining, he has managed to host and conduct a number of two-day training courses on topics such as poultry production, piggery and crop production.

He said he has also managed to host lectures and practical sessions "just to ensure that farmers receive up-to-date information that will ensure that productivity at household and community level is met."

He said since 2020, he has helped to change farmers’ perception of Agribank and made an impact within the bank.

"I encouraged some of my colleagues to undertake horticulture and poultry farming on a part-time basis," he added.

Newspaper articles, radio and broadcast interviews, training and other media outreach events have helped him to increase Agribank‘s visibility and also promote awareness of the bank.

"As an employee of Agribank, one of the biggest life lessons I have learned is that you are never too young, small, or unqualified to make a big difference. For any young man or young lady who would like to pursue agriculture as a career, my advice would be that passion must drive your love for farming," Saisai said.
