Erastus Shawapala Haihambo, a 33-year-old software developer, recently joined the team at Salt Essential Information Technology.

He began his tenure at the IT company in early March, making him one of the newest additions to the organisation.

Haihambo hails from the small village of Etomba in northern Namibia and is now based in Windhoek.

He holds an honours degree in computer science from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), with a primary focus on software development.

He also earned a certificate in project management, equipping him with both the technical expertise and strategic skills needed for his current role.

He explained that his academic background and hands-on industry experience have paved the way for taking on this dynamic position.

“My role involves designing, developing and maintaining software systems or applications that improve operational efficiency for clients as well as for the organisation,” he explained.

Before joining the company, Haihambo paid close attention to Salt's operations and initiatives, including BrainFrame and Enablement sessions.

These, he noted, helped him gain a deeper understanding of the company and sparked his interest to join.

Growth-filled environment

“What attracted me most was Salt’s focus on innovation, as well as the impact the company is making,” he noted.

Despite facing some challenges in adjusting to his new role, Haihambo said his experience so far has been positive and has contributed to his growth. He highlighted Salt’s collaborative and empowering culture, which encourages teamwork and supports exploring different approaches to problem-solving.

“Everyone is approachable and passionate about what they do, which makes it easier to ask questions and share ideas,” he said.

His advice to aspiring professionals is to challenge themselves, remain adaptable, stay curious, and continually refine and sharpen both their technical and soft skills.

“In tech, the learning never stops. Also, don’t be afraid to take initiative – opportunities often come when you step up and take responsibility,” Haihambo advised.
