The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund of Namibia recently appointed Samuel Kanyangela as its procurement officer in Ondangwa. “After so many years of waiting and hoping for a position that befits my expertise in procurement and property management, it is finally here,” he said. Kanyangela started in his new position on 16 May.BackgroundHe grew up in Walvis Bay and attended primary school at Duinesig Combined School, and secondary school at Duneside Private High School. In 2015, he graduated with a bachelor of transport management degree. “The following year, I was the best graduate of the marketing and logistics department. I later completed my bachelor of logistics and supply chain honours in 2022.”Career onsetKanyangela made his debut in the job industry in 2014 as an intern for the Private Sector Road Safety Forum. He stayed with them for a year, co-ordinating road safety education programmes. He made his first contact with the MVA Fund during this time, as their national road safety council members were the stakeholders of the 'Save Kids' Lives' campaign, which is part of the forum. He was also invited to be part of an MVA Fund ‘Smart Kids Campaign’ in Rundu. Here, got the privilege to meet MVA Fund’s prominent personnel, the likes of Jones Lutombi. “It was such a life-changing experience!”The following year, Kanyangela joined the ministry of health and social services' global fund department, as the fleet and assets controller, where he worked from November 2015 to September 2020. “Here, I took charge of managing the grant's fleet and assets. During my time, I developed a passion for aiding the public in health services.”He then transitioned to senior assets accountability officer, working for a cooperative agreement between the ministry and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). “Over the years, I have gained experience in logistics, procurement, transportation, fleet management and assets management.” This was Kanyangela’s last position before moving to MVA Fund.Roles and responsibilitiesSome of his roles at MVA Fund are routine inspection of the vehicles and the building, ensuring cars are roadworthy and that the building is safe for its occupants. He also sees to it at the close of business that vehicles have been returned in the condition they left. “Nothing gives me more satisfaction than knowing that I execute my duties with a 10-rated performance.” Kanyangela added that the approach that has contributed to his success is his strategy of finishing tasks a day before the deadline and not waiting for the last day. “It might seem impossible, but I have managed to pull it off in the past and it has worked wonders for me.” This strategy ensures that his desk is not flooded with pending work and he is not overworked, he said. “It also creates a leeway to minimise errors and mistakes. I just wish I had joined MVA Fund earlier!”
