Linda Jordaan's 19 years at the front desk of Paratus

For nearly two decades, Linda Jordaan has been the face of Paratus Namibia's front desk, the first person clients and staff see when they walk through the door.

Jordaan grew up in Bloemfontein, South Africa, and lost both her parents when she was just seven years old. The tragedy taught her early life lessons.

“I lost both of my parents when I was seven years old, which meant I had to learn resilience and independence from a young age,” she told Careers. Her sister, she said, was her greatest mentor after their parents died. “After the loss of our parents, she became like a mother to me.”

She found an outlet in sports such as netball, hockey and aerobic dancing, which she credits with teaching her discipline and teamwork, skills she later carried into her career.

Jordaan attended Bloemfontein Primary School and Werdas Fourie Smith High School, where she served as deputy head girl, which helped her to develop skills in leadership as well as a keen sense of responsibility. 

In 1987, she completed a diploma in switchboard operations, which gave her a strong foundation in customer service, communication and professionalism.

She pursued further studies in administration and office management, along with ongoing training in customer care and front-line etiquette.

This year, she marks nearly 20 years at Paratus Namibia as a receptionist.

"I have been with Paratus Namibia for 19 years, and it has been an incredibly rewarding journey,” she said. 

Outside work, Jordaan is dedicated to serving others, including volunteer work.

“Giving back to the community is very important to me. I am involved in supporting orphanages, collecting donations and assisting with community initiatives in Witvlei,” she said. 

Her advice to young people: “Always do your best, stay positive and never give up. There will be days when things are difficult, but your attitude will determine how far you go. Work hard, remain humble, and most importantly, share your knowledge with others and help those around you grow as well.”
