Engineering chose me
Sebron Nakashole is a 26-year-old mechanical engineer has been employed at Safari Engineering as of December 2022. His job description involves replacing or repairing faulty parts and systems, updating records on service work conducted on engines and overall car servicing. He describes his experience at Safari Engineering as challenging and exciting at the same time.
Embracing talents
Nakashole highlighted that engineering was not his first choice because he had dreams of one day becoming a doctor like his late father. However, he admitted that he naturally gravitated towards engineering and, as a kid, had always been good at fixing things. He added that it comes naturally to him, saying: “I had to embrace my God-given talents and abilities and become an engineer. Life and work became so much easier for me. I do not feel like I am working most times because I am doing what I love and enjoy”.
He is very result-driven and believes in always completing his tasks, with his family and overall self-improvement acting as fuel and motivation.
“I am very eager to learn during the process and know that there is always a finished product that I will be proud of. This motivates me to work very hard and it is through this motivation that I end up achieving my goals,” he said.
The engineer has several years of experience, starting first at Tate Thomas’ workshop at home, where he worked from 2015 to 2016, he then dived into IT at Interactive Solutions from 2016 to 2018. Lastly, he was employed at Pixel Media from 2018 to 2020.
He attended high school at Concordia College from 2012 to 2018 and went to the Katutura Youth Enterprise Centre (Kayec), where he studied basic engineering. He then polished up his skills at Vocational Training College Namibia, where he graduated in 2022.
For the youth
Nakashole said he believes that education is very important and encouraged the youth to pursue it relentlessly, especially when granted the opportunity. “Education is the key to moving smoothly in the world, seeking better jobs and ultimately succeeding in life. Education is the best investment for the people because well-educated people have more opportunities to get a job which gives them satisfaction,” he said.
He added that it is important to try to perfect your skills - even if you are naturally good at them. He further advised his peers to never stop learning in life, and said there is always room for improvement.
