Robert Eiman stepped into the role of Agribank's new CEO on 1 July, bringing years of financing experience to Namibia's agricultural lender.

Eiman, who previously served as CEO of NamPost Financial Brokers, brings with him extensive experience in commercial, corporate, and development financing. His appointment marks a significant step for Agribank as it continues to strengthen its role in supporting Namibia’s agricultural sector.

Eiman grew up in the village of Aroab and matriculated at Suiderlig High School in Keetmanshoop. He is married and a proud father of three children, balancing his professional responsibilities with family life.

Eiman said he was driven by the need to better himself and found satisfaction in the financial sector despite initially considering a different path.

“I always wanted to improve my personal circumstances and measure myself against the best from academics to professional life," he told Careers. "I stumbled onto a career in finance and initially wanted to do something completely different. I soon, however, realised that I actually like the world of banking and finance."

When asked about his reaction to being named CEO of Agribank, Eiman said that he felt thrilled but also recognised the weight of the role, knowing it was an opportunity to contribute to Namibia’s economy and strengthen Agribank’s future.

“I was very excited, and then it dawned on me the big responsibility that came with the position," he said.

"I am still as excited knowing that I have an opportunity to contribute to the economy of the country through agriculture and also to do my part in growing and improving the business with the future in mind,” he added.

Eiman believes resilience and people-centred leadership are essential qualities for his new role. He emphasised the importance of leading with empathy and ensuring that decisions benefit both the organisation and its stakeholders.

Lessons from the top

Reflecting on his early career, Eiman said he was motivated by watching experienced professionals and found joy in helping clients through effective solutions.

“I was always aspiring to higher positions in banking and shaping my course by watching and learning from seniors. The satisfaction from providing great service and solutions to clients is probably some of my earliest memories,” he said.

He has identified organisational culture and client relations as his first priorities.

Eiman advised young professionals to remain ambitious, go beyond their job descriptions and value growth as the ultimate reward.

“There is no substitute for character and work ethic, and this can easily be spotted by others," he said. "Be hungry in your career and don’t be confined to your job description. Learn as much as you can even if you are not rewarded for performing certain tasks because growth and experience is the ultimate reward."
