Dr Namundjebo-Tilahun Foundation on a mission to empower Namibians

The Dr Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun Foundation is a Windhoek-based non-profit founded by Namibian businesswoman, philanthropist and entrepreneur Dr Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun.The foundation is dedicated to empowering African youth and women through education, mentorship and entrepreneurship, while also supporting elderly members of society through community outreach initiatives.Established shortly after Namundjebo-Tilahun received an honorary doctorate in business administration from the University of Namibia in November 2015, the foundation was created to inspire hope and equip young people, particularly the African girl child, to become future leaders and contributors to society."The future of Africa depends on how we invest in our young people today. By nurturing the African girl child and empowering our youth, we are building a generation of leaders who can transform society," Namundjebo-Tilahun told Careers.The foundation’s work extends across Namibia, primarily serving vulnerable children, youth, women and elderly citizens. Through educational support programmes, food relief initiatives, community wellness campaigns, donations to schools and old-age homes, and youth empowerment activities, the organisation continues to provide assistance to communities in need."Our work is rooted in the belief that every child, every woman and every elderly person deserves dignity, support and an opportunity to live a meaningful life," Namundjebo-Tilahun added.Participants in its programmes develop communication, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving and financial awareness skills while building confidence, resilience and a sense of social responsibility. "Education is more than acquiring knowledge; it is a tool that gives individuals the confidence, skills and opportunities to shape their own futures," she said."Through mentorship, partnerships and community support, we can create pathways that allow young Namibians to discover their potential and contribute positively to society," she said.Like many non-profit organisations, the foundation faces challenges such as limited funding, increasing community needs and the demand for sustainable resources. However, continued support from corporate partners and stakeholders enables it to expand its programmes and maintain its commitment to improving lives across the country."True leadership is not measured by position or status, but by the ability to serve others, create opportunities and make a lasting difference in communities," Namundjebo-Tilahun said.The foundation also recognises the importance of supporting Namibia’s elderly population, viewing such initiatives as a way of showing gratitude and respect for previous generations."The elderly generation laid the foundation upon which we stand today. Supporting them is not only an act of kindness but also a way of honouring their sacrifices and contributions."Looking ahead, the Dr Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun Foundation aims to expand access to education, mentorship, skills development and social support to reach even more communities across Namibia.
