DBN invests in Namibia’s future

The Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) has officially launched its 2025 Young Professionals Programme (YPP), ushering in a new era of skills development and talent cultivation among the youth. This year marks a historic moment for the bank, with eight exceptional graduates selected to join the programme.Approximately 400 applications were received for the highly competitive initiative. The final candidates were chosen through a rigorous national recruitment process that included public calls, interviews and formal assessments.“This is more than just welcoming young professionals,” said acting DBN CEO John Mbango. “It is a firm commitment to shaping the future of development finance in Namibia. These graduates represent a new generation of specialists ready to contribute to sustainable development and socio-economic transformation.”Gaining key skills The YPP is a structured two-year programme designed to accelerate the careers of graduates by bridging the gap between academic excellence and practical industry expertise. Participants will rotate through key departments, gaining critical experience in areas such as risk, compliance, strategy, customer service and portfolio management. The programme includes personal development plans, mentorship from experienced professionals, engagement with senior management and regional benchmarking visits within SADC.Personal, professional growth Zacharias Fernandes, whose first placement is in the portfolio management department, shared his excitement.“I am honoured to be part of this opportunity. I look forward to learning about relationship management, customer service and understanding the bank’s internal processes. This is a chance to grow as a professional and contribute to DBN’s mission.”In the risk and compliance department, Matilde Johannes shared similar sentiments. “I am so grateful and excited. This programme is not only a platform to contribute but also a space where I can learn and develop my career.”One emotional YPP participant reflected on the journey that led them here. “After 50 job applications, several rejections and three internships, I was about to give up. But DBN saw something in me. Where others overlooked my skills, this bank said we are talented. I will forever be grateful.”Trust in DBN Sara Kapiye, DBN’s chief human capital officer, praised the collective effort behind the programme. “To be selected as one of eight from approximately 400 applicants is an incredible achievement. This programme is a result of teamwork across the bank. Thank you to every staff member who made this possible.”She added a final message to the participants. “Even though eight might seem like a small number compared to the youth population, progress starts somewhere. Thank you for trusting DBN to be part of your professional journey. We believe in your potential.”With this year’s record intake, DBN has reaffirmed its role in shaping the country’s development landscape through the strategic empowerment of young professionals.
