Capricorn Foundation and Imago Dei strengthen support for vulnerable communities
The Capricorn Foundation has renewed its partnership with Imago Dei, committing N$980 000 to support 10 communities based across Namibia that assist vulnerable and marginalised people.
The partnership, which dates back to 2021, focuses on addressing poverty, food insecurity and social vulnerability through the Foundation’s Vulnerability Initiatives Focus Area. Imago Dei, a welfare organisation, mobilises support and directs resources to community projects working to improve the lives of people in need.
Through the renewed commitment, ten projects will continue receiving support, including Feeding with Love, Blessed Meal Soup Kitchen, Bethel Soup Kitchen, Klein Aub Community Soup Kitchen, Grace Welfare, Twaloloka Aid Support and kindness (TASK), Response Action Based Organisation (RABO), Hope for Life Foundation, Family of hope and URC Mariental Soup Kitchen.
The initiatives provide services ranging from daily meals to community support programmes and assistance for vulnerable children, families and individuals. Imago Dei estimates that its network reaches more than 4 000 direct and indirect beneficiaries, extending its impact to households and wider communities.
“Behind every meal served, every child supported and every family assisted, is a story of hope,” said Marlize Horn, Executive Director of the Capricorn Foundation.
She added that the partnership helps community organisations continue their work in some of Namibia's most vulnerable communities, supporting initiatives that restore dignity, provide care and create opportunities for better futures.
Millinda Coffee, General Manager at Imago Dei Welfare and Poverty Relief Programme, said the partnership creates opportunities for meaningful change.
“Without the backing and support of the Capricorn Foundation, we would certainly not be able to impact the numerous lives that we have,” she said, expressing appreciation for the continued collaboration.
One example of the projects’ impact is the Klein Aub Community Soup Kitchen, founded by local church members who recognised the need to provide nutritious meals for vulnerable and orphaned children. According to Coffee, the kitchen has consistently served children, pensioners and people with disabilities over the past three years.
Community feedback indicates that access to meals has helped children become healthier and concentrate better on their education without constantly worrying about where their next meal will come from.
Established by Capricorn Group in February 2020, the Capricorn Foundation focuses on education, economic advancement, health, vulnerability and sustainability programmes. Through its partnership with Imago Dei, it continues to support community initiatives addressing essential needs across Namibia.
