PJ Amunyela joined the Namibian Defence Force as a recruit 16 years ago.

Since then, he has served as a military policeman and a special investigator and now works in the public relations division of the defence ministry.

“I joined the Namibian Defence Force on 3 March 2009 as a recruit,” he told Careers. He advanced to become a military policeman in January 2010 before he was appointed as an investigator within the special investigation branch. Next, he transferred to the public relations division within the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs.

Reflecting on his years of service, Amunyela emphasised the values that guided his career.

“I have proudly served in the Namibian Defence Force for over 16 years, dedicating myself to the values of professionalism, discipline, integrity, and service to the nation,” he said.

Wise words

Amunyela credits much of his drive to advice from Lieutenant General Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah, the former chief of the Defence Force and Namibia’s current first Gentleman.

His advice to members was clear; even when promotions are delayed, continue promoting yourself through knowledge, education and personal development. This message inspired Amunyela and many others to keep striving for excellence.

Amunyela encourages young people to dream big and to work diligently.

“Dream so big that your dreams scare you. Never allow anyone to tell you that you are too young to succeed or that your dreams are too ambitious," he said. "Believe in yourself, work hard, take calculated risks, and trust God throughout your journey".

Looking back, Amunyela said every posting has left its mark.

“Despite the challenges, I remain proud of my service to the Namibian Defence Force. Every role I have held has shaped me both professionally and personally, and I am grateful for the experiences, the people I worked alongside, and the opportunity to serve my country with honour,” he said.
