This girl is on fire
The best junior female at the national athletics has set the bar high for herself.
Lume Jansen Van Rensburg had a good start to the year by winning three medals and also winning the best junior female, junior track and junior victrix ludorum at the Namibia School Sports Union (NSSU) national athletics that took place in April. Lume wants to compete in everything and is looking forward to breaking records and bettering herself.
When asked what her greatest achievement has been so far, Lume said: “At the national athletics I achieved a personal best in the 75-metre hurdles, 200-metre hurdles and long jump as well, I can say that has been my greatest achievement of the year thus far.”
Lume is 12 years old and attends school at Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool (WAP). Her favourite subjects are economics and science and she wants to become a lawyer or a paediatrician when she grows up, but to be an athlete too.
“I really enjoy all sports, especially athletics. I like being competitive, the adrenaline of athletics and developing my talents to the fullest. My parents and my coach Karina Theunissen constantly motivate me to push myself. I would love to be a professional hurdles athlete one day,” Lume said on what motivates her to do sports.
In her free time she enjoys playing hockey and netball. She also spends a lot of time reading books and being around her friends. ”I enjoy baking and shopping with my mom and fishing with my dad,” she added.
Her favourite things to eat are burgers and pancakes. She also enjoys watching movies and ‘Mamma Mia’ is one of her favourites. She is the oldest of two siblings. Her younger brother Kian, who is ten years old, is her biggest supporter.
Her mother and father, Luzane and Jonty Jansen van Rensburg, said: “Our biggest dream is that Lume will live her life to the fullest and accomplish everything she dreams of. A healthy and happy life.”
With her little brother being her biggest fan and her parents helping her follow her dreams, Lume is destined for greatness.
