PK de Villiers celebrates Diamond Jubilee
An unforgettable celebration
The school's 75th birthday celebrations brought everyone together to mark the special occasion.
"Happy 75th birthday, PK de Villiers" – four amazing words used to celebrate a great school – a celebration that no one could see coming.
Birthdays are special.
They give us the opportunity to unapologetically celebrate our loved ones wholeheartedly. Of course, the PK de Villiers' family is no different and had to make sure that the celebration ended with an unforgettable day.
A school’s birthday, just like any other school-based event, is an event planned and executed by the school.
Luckily for our school, we are fortunate enough to have a big family that helps with the workload. The family hierarchy consists of the principal, the school board members, the heads of departments, the teachers, the learner representative council, and lastly, the learners. All of which play a major role in both governing and pulling weight when it comes to events. This year’s birthday was celebrated under the theme ‘Celebrating the Diamond Jubilee, together and united as a family’.
Party time
With that being said, the beginning of February was yet another hectic time for the school. Everyone was expected to work their fingers to the bone to ensure that the event was a success.
As one would expect, the event was nothing but colourful, musical, and filled with both the culture and laughter of everyone reaping the fruits of their labour. The event kicked off with a march from the school to the central business district of Keetmanshoop and then back to the school again.
The music band and cheerleaders made sure that the march did not go unnoticed, as they were the stars of the show.
Upon our arrival at the school, the learner representative council, with the help of the management, made sure that we were welcomed by a beautifully decorated venue.
It was time to release white doves into the sky as an indication that peace lives within our school. Silence was of essence – and there was silence – the horizon was blue, mustard and white, colours representing the school. Afterwards, the celebrations began – everyone danced, laughed, and enjoyed their time; it was a sight worth a thousand words.
Naturally, no event takes place without speeches, so we immediately dove in.
It was an emotional and heartfelt moment.
Pictures and memories were painted for us by those that came before us, and needless to say, we all left with a bit of encouragement that day.
After the wholesome moment, it was time for cake! We made our way to our classrooms, where we indulged in cake and enjoyed the rest of the programme for the day.
It was definitely a Diamond Jubilee that will never be forgotten.
