Noordgrens Charity Club receives, makes donations

Noordgrens Secondary School’s Charity Club held a donation event on 27 March, providing clothes and other essential items to vulnerable and orphaned learners.The club which was founded by Life Skills teacher Mrs Hamutenya, has been active since 2018/2019 and continues to grow in both support and impact.Hamutenya said that the club was established after she noticed how many learners were struggling in silence. “Learners go through a lot and often their needs are overlooked," she explained.At first, donations came mainly from her family, friends and Mr Anthon, but over time, the club began attracting more support.This year’s event was made possible with the help of the regional office and a group of former Noordgrens learners from the class of 2015.Among the former learners were Innocentia Ntonda, who, alongside Ndembere Gerhard, Mbukusha Gratitude, Mupo Isabella and Felister Munyungano, made donations. “We did it mainly because of the girl and boy child,” said Innocentia. “We’ve seen many cases where learners were in need, and we wanted to help where we could.”The group hopes to donate more in the future and aims to work with NGOs and shops to reach even more students, Hamutenya saidHamutenya expressed her hope for the club’s future, aiming to continue expanding its reach and making sure every vulnerable learner feels seen and supported.“I think they appreciate it and they can see now that they are cared for,” she said with a smile.The Charity Club remains a powerful reminder of the compassion and unity that lives within the Noordgrens community - a symbol of hope, care and the difference that kindness can make.
