Ascending from what was once a last resort to many’s first choice

In the year 2010, Kamalili Pre-Primary School transformed into Keetmanshoop Junior Secondary School, which is today known as Keetmanshoop Secondary School (KSS). During the reign of the first principals, Martie Esterhuyzen and Pieter Scholtz, the school was not well-known. Due to certain shortcomings, which were out of their control, the school was considered a last resort.In 2017, the current principal Stanley /Ui-#nuseb took over. Apart from aiding the respective ministry, Mr /Ui-#nuseb and his highly dedicated team of teachers went the extra mile for the school, leading to a drastic improvement in the performance rate as well as the reputation of the school. Their efforts have led to the school being part of the top five in the //Karas Region.During an interview, he explained that once he arrived at the school, his expectations matched the reality. It was a mere junior secondary school. Today, the school is at senior secondary level, with the number of students drastically increased from what it was before. He added that it was not him alone who brought the school to where it is today. He said the teachers, staff members and stakeholders all created a powerful team. Each has their weak and strong points, but at the end of the day, they all come together and work towards a common goal.When asked what is the most important aspect of his team, /Ui-#nuseb responded with "inclusivity". "Meaning everyone does their part to the best of their ability." He said they have the learners' best interests at heart and strive only for the best. Although the management team has many objectives in mind, there are those they hope to achieve as quickly as possible, such as making KSS a fully-fledged secondary school, building more classrooms and, most importantly, attending to the social disadvantages learners may face.The school strives to be the heart of education as well as everyone’s first choice. As quoted by /Ui-#nuseb: ‘’It is easily said, but God works on this land, therefore we will achieve everything we strive for’’.
