Oliver Ohm qualifies for FINA Junior World Championships
Balancing school and sports is not easy, but Oliver Ohm tries his best and is loving every part of it.
Oliver Ohm(16), a grade 10 student at St George’s Diocesan School, has been a swimmer all his life.

After putting in the work, Oliver Ohm has qualified to represent Namibia at the 8th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Lima, Peru.
The competition will take place from 30 August until 4 September.
“I am extremely excited and look forward to participating in this prestigious event. I intend to give my best and produce good results at the championships,” he said.
“I hope to make my supporters proud by accomplishing excellent times and perhaps qualifying for more significant events in the future, such as the FINA World Swimming Championships,” he added.
Tarrynne Ohm, Oliver’s mom, was very excited when she heard he qualified for the championship.
“Oli was swimming in South Africa to qualify for Junior Worlds at the time. He called to say that he had just qualified for JW with 600 FINA points. I started crying because I was overwhelmed and super excited for him and very proud,” she said.
Oliver has been training twice a day, and his coaches are pushing him to his full potential.
He takes his inspiration from his coach and aims to be the best swimmer he can be. He doesn’t really have free time, but when he does, he likes to play basketball and table tennis. His main focus is school work however.
Oliver’s younger sister, Michaela Ohm (15), is also a swimmer like her brother, and she is super proud of him.

He has taken part in many competitions but the FINA championship is the highlight of the year so far.
He is very ambitious, as he wants to do well and make everyone proud.
“I know it won't be easy, but I am up for the challenge and prepared to put in the hard work and dedication to accomplish my goals and am extremely excited for the future," he said.
With the aim of becoming a professional swimmer, he looks forward to what the future holds as he wants to take part in more championships and international competitions.
