Zimbabwe firms target Namibia
Zimbabwe’s national trade promotion agency, ZimTrade, will lead a three-day business mission to Windhoek next month as companies seek opportunities to expand into the Namibian market.
The mission will run from 7 to 9 October and is being organised with the Embassy of Zimbabwe in Namibia, the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) and the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI).
A business forum at the Hilton Garden Inn will bring together Zimbabwean and Namibian companies to discuss market access, potential partnerships and trade opportunities.
The participating sectors include agriculture, alcoholic beverages, education, engineering, fast-moving consumer goods, stock feeds, horticulture and logistics.
ZimTrade said the mission would give Zimbabwean businesses an opportunity to meet potential buyers, importers and distributors while gaining a better understanding of Namibia’s regulatory requirements and distribution channels.
The agency has participated in the Windhoek Agricultural and Commercial Show for the past three years. It said the latest mission was intended to build on those engagements and develop more direct commercial links between businesses in the two countries.
Melody Chaurura, Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Namibia, said the mission would help businesses identify practical areas of cooperation.
“The mission will provide an important platform for Zimbabwean and Namibian businesses to move beyond dialogue and identify practical areas of cooperation,” she said.
Jacqueline Nyathi, ZimTrade’s manager for the southern region, said the mission would give Zimbabwean companies a better understanding of the Namibian market while creating opportunities to engage potential buyers and business partners.
Titus Nampala, chief executive of the NCCI, said the initiative could help Namibian businesses find new suppliers, explore markets and develop commercial partnerships.
The mission is expected to include business-to-business meetings and discussions on market access and opportunities for collaboration.
ZimTrade said the engagements were aimed at strengthening trade links between Namibia and Zimbabwe and helping participating companies identify potential export and partnership opportunities.
