Woodlands @ Herboths appoints estate architect

Property developer APxHouse has announced an exclusive partnership with Pieter Mostert Architects for the Woodlands @ Herboths residential estate, east of Windhoek.

The agreement will see Pieter Mostert Architects serve as the estate architect, overseeing the design approval process for all homes on behalf of the estate's homeowners' association. The appointment is intended to ensure a consistent architectural character across the development's 31 freehold erven while allowing buyers to customise their homes.

According to APxHouse, the collaboration is designed to preserve the estate's long-term character and property values, rather than offering buyers a selection of standard house plans.

"Woodlands @ Herboths was never meant to be a conventional development," APxHouse chief executive Le-Hugo van Rooyen said.

"This collaboration gives the estate a single architectural identity that protects the value of every home while allowing owners the freedom to build the home they have always imagined."

The development has been designed as an off-grid residential estate, with each property including a hybrid solar power system, access to bulk water supplied by NamWater and on-site wastewater treatment.

From compact to large

The estate covers about 160 hectares and comprises 31 freehold erven ranging in size from three to eight hectares. APxHouse said wildlife will continue to move through conservation corridors across the estate, while residents will have access to the upgraded Dr Hage Geingob Freeway, approximately 20 minutes from Windhoek and on the route to Hosea Kutako International Airport.

Pieter Mostert, founder of Pieter Mostert Architects, said the practice's approach is to design homes that respond to their natural surroundings. "The landscape is the starting point for every home. Our role is to help each owner create a home that responds to its site, climate and surroundings through thoughtful planning, natural materials and timeless design," he said.

He added that sustainability should be achieved through good design rather than treated as an additional feature.

APxHouse said demand for this type of lifestyle had already been demonstrated at the neighbouring Herboths Blick estate, where all erven have been sold.

The company said its land portfolio covers more than 4 000 hectares, with capacity for over 25 000 mixed-use erven, while Pieter Mostert Architects has worked on residential and commercial projects in several African countries as well as the United States and Germany.
