Omusati’s homegrown heroes win big with OM SEED

STAFF REPORTER
The Old Mutual Foundation is proud to announce the top three winners of the Omusati Region edition of the Old Mutual Sustainable, Economic and Empowerment Drive (OM SEED). These inspiring entrepreneurs impressed judges with their bold solutions, commitment to agriculture, and potential to drive local economic growth.

Winning first place is Sakeus Npiwashimwe, founder of Ndipwa Trading cc, whose crop and feed production business supports food security and promotes sustainable farming practices in the region.

In second place is Petrus Daniel of Etunda GSP, an agricultural and horticulture venture that is greening the region while creating income-generating opportunities for surrounding communities.

Wilhelmine Komesho Amupolo, founder of Genesis Farming Enterprises, took third place with her poultry business that supplies fresh eggs and chicken meat, making her a key player in the local agri-food value chain.

“The Omusati winners remind us that the future of sustainable development lies in the soil, the hands of hard-working entrepreneurs, and the communities they serve,” said Mignon du Preez, Old Mutual Namibia's group executive for marketing. “Their commitment to feeding their region while building thriving enterprises is a powerful example of growth rooted in purpose.”

Each of the winners will receive seed capital, tailored business support, and one-on-one mentorship to help scale their impact and strengthen their contribution to the Namibian economy.

This announcement forms part of the final round of OM SEED’s four-year nationwide journey to uplift grassroots entrepreneurs. Since 2022, the initiative has supported various Namibians with small businesses through funding, skills development, and long-term mentorship – in line with the Old Mutual Foundation’s mission of driving economic inclusion and resilience.

The 2025 edition drew 116 entries across four focus regions: Omusati, Kunene, Otjozondjupa, and Omaheke. Winners were selected through a robust process involving interviews, business assessments, and site visits, in partnership with the Financial Literacy Initiative (FLI) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Winners from the final region will be announced in the coming week as OM SEED wraps up under the theme: Rooted in Growth for Sustainability.
