Old Mutual Short-Term Insurance recently celebrated a milestone with the unveiling of its state-of-the-art Assessment Centre, a game-changer in its claims and customer service value proposition. The occasion brought together key stakeholders and valued customers for an afternoon of innovation, insight, and interaction.The newly launched Old Mutual Short-Term Insurance Assessment Centre represents a significant step forward in customer convenience and innovation. Designed as a one-stop shop, the centre allows customers to bring their damaged vehicles for a seamless assessment experience. Leveraging cutting-edge AI technology, the system accurately determines the extent of the damage and reviews the vehicle's history. With skilled technicians and qualified assessors available on-site, customers can receive real-time repair quotes, all under one roof, ensuring faster turnaround times and a more efficient claims process.The launch was officially opened by Old Mutual Short-Term Insurance General Manager: Claims and Operations, Carmen Forster, who welcomed guests and outlined the programme for the afternoon. This was followed by a motivational keynote presentation delivered by Operations Manager, Imme Hucke-McFarlane, highlighting Old Mutual's ongoing commitment to customer-centric solutions and operational excellence.A live demonstration was given by Willie Snowden and Griffith Jarmann that showcased the possibilities of the new system. Through data-led intelligence, the platform can determine the exact date and time of an incident, removing the need for lengthy investigations and cutting the claims process by as much as three weeks.The demonstration included a real-case example: a vehicle involved in an accident on 8 April 2025 with reports indicating that as of 22 March 2025 all systems, engine and gearbox included, were in good working condition. This confirmed that the vehicle was free of mechanical fault at the time of the accident.Snowden explained how data from airbags and bumpers can be utilised to determine speed and severity of impact. He noted that gearbox and engine diagnostics are also very important in determining the condition of the vehicle. Jarmann added that tyre data is useful too. For example, if warning signs were activated prior to the collision.As a matter of interest, it was noted that several vehicles have been involved in collisions with donkeys or cows, a regular hazard on Namibian roads. The demo vehicle used during the day had, in fact, struck a cow, emphasising the importance of drivers staying alert, particularly on long journeys. One of the highlights of the day was the ribbon-cutting ceremony, performed by Managing Director Riaan Swiegelaar and a member of the Old Mutual Board of Directors, Debbie Smit, to symbolically open the Assessment Centre. The day concluded with a prize-giving, where one visitor won a N$5 000 voucher to be spent at Tyre Rack in Windhoek. In addition, Old Mutual Short-Term Insurance announced that two more vouchers of the same value will be given away through competitions on Radio Wave and Kosmos. Namibians are advised to listen in and look out for a special presentation in participating malls for their chance to win.
