Norasa gets environmental renewal

Ogone Tlhage

Asarian Energy has secured a three-year renewal of the environmental clearance certificate for its Norasa uranium project, allowing it to continue advancing development plans.

The company said on Monday that the ministry of environment renewed the certificate, which is valid until 11 August 2029.

The Norasa project is wholly owned by Asarian’s subsidiary, Valencia Uranium (Pty) Ltd, and comprises the Valencia mining licence (ML149) and the Namibplaas exploration licence (EPL3638) in the Erongo region.

The renewal followed an assessment of the company’s environmental management practices, including waste management, emissions controls, biodiversity protection and community engagement, according to Asarian.

The certificate is a key regulatory requirement for the project’s continued advancement, although the renewal does not in itself constitute approval to begin mining.

Asarian, which is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and the Namibia Securities Exchange, said it was operating under a new leadership and management structure as it pursued a strategy focused on optimising existing assets and expanding its project portfolio.

The company aims to become a significant global uranium producer, with Norasa forming a central part of its growth strategy. It also plans to expand its international footprint through acquisitions, strategic alliances and joint ventures.

The announcement did not provide a revised development timetable, capital expenditure estimates or a target date for production at Norasa.
