NKCC welcomes new BIPA CEO, calls for urgent digitisation

Staff reporterThe Namibia–Kenya Chamber of Commerce (NKCC) welcomes the appointment of Ainna Vilengi Kaundu as the new chief executive of the Business Intellectual Property Authority (BIPA) and congratulates her on the confidence placed in her leadership.In a media statement, NKCC president Elvis Mboya said that as a chamber representing cross-border investors and entrepreneurs, “we believe her tenure presents an important opportunity to urgently prioritise the digitisation of BIPA’s processes to enhance efficiency, transparency and investor confidence.”He said that currently, business registration and related approvals often take months and remain heavily paper-based, a challenge frequently raised by members seeking to invest in Namibia. “We therefore encourage a shift towards fully online business applications, instant document uploads and seamless digital payment systems.”Furthermore, Mboya said that Namibia can draw on practical lessons from Kenya’s eCitizen platform, where company registration is completed online within days and supported by integrated payment solutions such as M-Pesa and other digital channels.“The chamber avails itself to facilitate knowledge exchange and technical engagement with Kenya’s ICT and digital government ecosystem in support of BIPA’s modernisation agenda,” Mboya said.He concluded: “A faster, more predictable and fully digital BIPA would significantly improve Namibia’s ease of doing business and strengthen its competitiveness as an investment destination. We wish Ms Kaundu every success as she steers BIPA into its next phase of institutional transformation.”
