Nandi-Ndaitwah pushes tighter project oversight

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged her Cabinet to strengthen project delivery through rigorous monitoring and evaluation (M&E), saying such systems are essential for detecting inefficiencies and ensuring progress under the government’s development agenda.Speaking at the official closing of Cabinet for 2025, Nandi-Ndaitwah said it was crucial for government institutions to keep close track of project implementation to ensure timely delivery.“Impactful governance requires disciplined tracking of progress, early detection of delays, and the ability to adjust course where needed. Strengthening these systems is essential for accelerating implementation under the National Development Plan 6 (NDP6) and ensuring that the promises of the SWAPO Party Manifesto are delivered within the prescribed timelines,” she said.The President further directed all government offices, ministries and agencies (OMAs) to either establish or upgrade their M&E units.“I direct the institutions responsible for establishing or upgrading their monitoring and evaluation units to complete this work in the first quarter of 2026,” she said.Service delivery milestonesNandi-Ndaitwah also underscored the need for stronger coordination between OMAs to ensure that development targets are met.“As we enter the new year, I expect deeper coordination between central, regional, and local authorities so that service delivery becomes coherent and seamless for the Namibian people. The acceleration of implementation must produce measurable results that unlock investment, drive job creation, support industrialisation, and sustain inclusive growth,” she said.The President added that OMAs would be expected to demonstrate clear service-delivery outcomes in 2026.“Next year will demand even greater focus, discipline, and unity of purpose. I have full confidence that together we will implement more impactful programmes that advance sustained economic growth and development, and create new opportunities for our people.”
