Namibia has reached a significant milestone in the oversight and delivery of development projects. Recently, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Namibian Government launched the Remote Appraisal, Supervision, Monitoring and Evaluation (RASME) initiative. Our country is embracing digital innovation to transform how development progress is tracked, managed, and evaluated. Projects will have and see real accountability. Something that has sadly often been missing.The launch of RASME initiative represents a fundamental shift towards a more innovative, more agile, responsive, and accountable approach to project management and overall governance. The generation, analysis, monitoring, and processing of real-time data will drive decision-making and lead to more meaningful results.The AfDB RASME IT solution provides new information and communication technologies to optimise the collection, analysis, and management of data within the framework of project preparation, evaluation, and supervision. ICT lies at the very foundation of disciplined project management.The recurring challenge of incomplete information provision often plagues development projects. RASME addresses this directly by enabling real-time data collection from project sites. Instead of waiting for monthly reports or secondhand updates, decision-makers can now access live information to closely monitor progress, identify obstacles, and make informed interventions — in real-time.The deeper story here is about the power of disciplined project management — a skill often underestimated, yet central to our national progress. Especially, if we view it through the lens of achieving the National Planning Development Plan 6 goals and Vision 2030 for Namibia.Good project management is not simply about schedules and spreadsheets.
