N$103m boost for green industry
Namibia and Germany have signed a N$103 million technical cooperation agreement to expand access to sustainable energy and develop value chains for critical raw materials.
The agreement was signed during a meeting between newly accredited German Ambassador Thomas Wimmer and National Planning Commission (NPC) director general Kaire Mbuende.
The projects were agreed during bilateral negotiations on development cooperation held in Lüderitz in 2025.
One project will support Namibia's target of increasing access to energy from 59.3% to 70% by 2030, while the second will focus on developing sustainable value chains for critical raw materials.
The latter initiative aims to promote local value addition, transparency and economic opportunities linked to the global energy transition.
The cooperation forms part of broader efforts to advance Namibia's energy transition and green industrialisation.
Germany's existing support for Namibia's energy sector has included the construction or replacement of about 1,300km of transmission lines, as well as the expansion and rehabilitation of the Ruacana Hydropower Plant.
Wimmer's meeting with Mbuende followed the presentation of his credentials to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on 7 October 2026.
