While the event had its share of highs and lows, it ultimately delivered a diverse range of collections and demonstrated the burgeoning potential of Namibian and southern African designers.
The organisers succeeded in converting NamPower Convention Centre into a stylish and chic space, redefining the ambiance on both the blue carpet and in the main hall where the runway shows took centre stage.
Runway shows
The first leg of the runway shows took place on Friday, 3 November, featuring 15 designers. Regrettably, the opening night of runway displays fell short of expectations in terms of production value.
Both the organisers and fashion designers struggled to create an engaging atmosphere. The exhibition, notably, lacked the dramatic flair commonly associated with such high-profile events. To everyone's surprise, emerging talents, mainly fashion students from the College of the Arts, outshone established designers with their creative brilliance.
The evening's crowning moment was Sitwala's collection, which managed to captivate the audience despite the lukewarm beginning to the runway presentations.
The event reached its climax on Saturday night with a grand finale featuring collections by some of Namibia's most illustrious fashion brands, including SIRENGA and Zuriel by Luis Munana. In a delightful surprise, the inclusion of fashion brands from other southern African countries like Botswana, South Africa and Angola lent a regional flavour to the proceedings.
