Jacobs’ hair-care dream takes root

Turning an idea into a business is rarely a straight path, but for Maureen Jacobs, building Angel’s Hair Repair Products has become a story of faith, determination, sacrifice and purpose.A mother of two daughters, corporate employee, student and entrepreneur, Jacobs has built her hair-care business while juggling several demanding responsibilities.She describes herself as a hardworking, determined and focused woman who believes in pursuing her goals despite the challenges along the way.“Being an entrepreneur has taught me so much about myself. It has shown me that I am capable of more than I ever imagined,” Jacobs said.Her entrepreneurial journey began after she identified a need for accessible hair-care products that could help people care for their hair while giving them confidence in their regular hair-care routines.She saw an opportunity to create products for people dealing with issues such as damaged, dry and weak hair, as well as thinning edges.“I wanted to create products that were accessible, practical and focused on helping people take better care of their hair,” she said.What started as an idea gradually developed into a business with customers, growing recognition and a bigger vision for the future.Starting with what she hadJacobs says she did not begin with a large team or production facility. Instead, she started with what she had and learned along the way.Today, she remains closely involved in almost every part of the operation. She prepares and cooks the products, bottles and packages them, labels them, communicates with customers, handles marketing and customer service, and makes deliveries.“There is a lot of work that happens behind the scenes, but I take pride in knowing that every product that reaches my customer has passed through my own hands,” she said.Balancing the demands of entrepreneurship with corporate employment, studies and raising her children has not been easy. Jacobs says there have been times when she was physically and mentally exhausted, forcing her to learn the importance of time management, prioritisation and discipline.Building customer trustFor Jacobs, success is not measured only by sales. It is also reflected in customers supporting the brand, using its products, recommending them to others and returning to buy again.“One of the biggest defining moments for me was realising that people were not only buying my products, they were coming back,” she said.Those returning customers helped Jacobs realise that she was building more than a product line.Jacobs credits consistency, customer service, quality, honesty and marketing as important factors in the growth of Angel’s Hair Repair Products. She says one of her most important decisions was to take the brand seriously, establish a clear identity and maintain a professional presentation while remaining close to her customers.“Customers remember how you treat them. Good customer service, quality, consistency and honesty are just as important as the product itself,” she said.As the business grows, Jacobs is determined not to sacrifice quality for expansion. She says maintaining quality and customer trust is central to the brand.“I would rather grow steadily and maintain quality than grow quickly and compromise what my brand stands for,” she said.Learning along the wayLooking back, Jacobs says she would have believed in her idea sooner. She believes aspiring entrepreneurs should not wait until they have everything they need before starting, as much of the knowledge, confidence and experience comes through the journey itself.She would also have placed greater emphasis on documenting finances, processes, customers, stock and growth from the beginning.“Starting small does not mean your vision has to remain small,” she said.Her vision for Angel’s Hair Repair Products over the next three to five years is ambitious. Jacobs wants to expand the brand’s presence across Namibia and eventually beyond the country, increase production, broaden the product range and establish systems that can support the business as it grows.One of her major goals is to establish a warehouse and create employment opportunities, with the long-term ambition of employing about 15 people.“I want to build a sustainable brand and legacy, something that can continue growing and create opportunities for other people,” she said.Building a legacyHer two daughters remain a central source of motivation. She wants them to see through her journey that it is possible for a woman to work, study, raise children and still pursue her dreams.One of her biggest ambitions is to become the first business owner in her family, break cycles of poverty and limitation, and build a legacy her daughters can be proud of.“Angel’s Hair Repair Products is more than a business. It is a testimony of what can happen when faith meets hard work, purpose meets determination, and a simple idea is given the courage to grow,” she said.For aspiring entrepreneurs, Jacobs has one overriding message.“Do not wait for everything to be perfect because it probably never will be,” she said.“I am still on my journey. I am still learning, still growing and still building,” she said.While she may not have every step of the journey mapped out, Jacobs believes entrepreneurs need the courage to take the first step, the faith to continue and the determination not to give up.
