Inflation remains subdued

Namibia’s headline inflation rate rose slightly in April 2025 by 0.5% and stood at 3.6%, according to the latest report by the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA).

On a year-to-year basis, the inflation rate was slightly lower than the 4.8% figure registered for April 2024, the NSA noted.

“The headline annual inflation rate for April 2025, stood at 3.6% compared to 4.8% registered in April 2024. On a monthly basis, the inflation rate rose by 0.2%, a slowdown compared to 0.5% registered during the preceding month,” the NSA said.

According to the NSA, considering that April marks the start of a financial year, the inflation rate for April 2025 is coincidentally the fiscal inflation for the 2025/26 financial year.



Across Namibia, the zonal year-on-year inflation rates for the month of April 2025 revealed that Zone 3 (//Kharas, Erongo, Hardap, Omaheke regions) recorded the highest rate of 4.1%; Zone 1 (Kavango East, Kavango West, Kunene, Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, Otjozondjupa, and Zambezi regions) recorded an annual inflation rate of 3.7%, while by Zone 2 (Khomas region) recorded 3.2%.

“An analysis of the average retail prices for selected products in April 2025 revealed that consumers in Zone 2 paid the highest price for pure sunflower oil (750 ml) at N$33.43, followed by Zone 1 at N$32.58, while the lowest price of N$31.95 was paid by consumers in Zone 3,” the NSA said.

Meanwhile, consumers in Zone 1 paid the highest price for Rooibos teabags (100 g) at N$37.76; followed by Zone 3 at N$35.17, and Zone 2 consumers paying the lowest price of N$33.74.
